Welcome to the Start of a New Journey!
Well hello, there, folks! Welcome to the first of what is going to be many articles of my business blog!
For those of you that do not know me, let me introduce myself. My name is Jacob Whitmore and I live in the small town of Cheneyville, LA with my wife, three kids, six (at the moment) horses, three dogs, two pigs, two cats, and one sheep.
I am a business management professor at Louisiana State University of Alexandria where I teach our courses that focus on the behavioral side of management.
I am a former U.S. Army Ordnance Officer and have also spent nearly a decade in corporate America as a data scientist, software developer, and consultant. I have lead and managed both large and small teams in both the military and the business world.
My academic research focuses on individual differences like motivation and personality and how they influence different outcomes in the workplace.
So why am I starting a blog, you may ask? Well, for starters, I enjoy writing. While I love the research process and academic writing, sometimes writing for academic journals can be a little stuffy.
I mean, can you believe that most academic journals won’t allow you to post pictures in your articles that demonstrate the glorious fashion sense of 90s country singers? It’s preposterous! (See Exhibit A below)
My other goal is to genuinely help business owners and managers by providing thought-provoking and insightful content that can lead to a better working life for everyone.
I believe that my diverse management background in the military, the corporate world, and academia has provided me with a unique perspective that can add a ton of value to the lives of others.
I want you to learn from my experiences and research so you can be your best self.
My aim is to make you think and to lead you to have difficult conversations with yourself that lead to positive outcomes for you, your career, and your business.
If my writing makes just one person learn and grow, then I will be satisfied. However, everyone is welcome on this journey and the more the merrier!
So buckle up, everyone, because this is going to be a fun ride that I am happy for you to join me on!
